Animals and humans work together

-

RE: NOTL HORSE CARRIAGE PROTEST STAYS PEACEFUL, JULY 30 And what will they protest next? At war for animals? What’s next … protesting the use of fish bait? Can’t keep chickens in a coop nor eat their eggs? Oh wait, why not protest taking milk from cows? Are these daily routines not considered abuse of our animals? Are these species not “working”? And what about service dogs who are trained to assist people with health and mobility issues … would they take away a guide dog and allow a blind person to be relegated to the homes because the dog is made to work?

How on earth do these people think our country grew and prospered if not for the work of animals alongside human beings, they built their lives and country together. If those horses in Niagara-on-the-Lake weren’t being given something to do, they would likely die of boredom.

The owners, or should I say “family members,” give them sustenance, they’re bathed and cleaned, given safe and healthy housing, get medical check ups and something to do that makes them happy, like pulling a carriage.

And let’s not forget those who own and care for them, who give love and affection as people might do with a pet, any pet.

Horses who have no future go to the “glue factory,” should that be their fate?

I think this group of activists need to get a life, get a job, do something constructive instead of supporting a cause that has no merit. And who made up the word “speciesism”? If all working species were replaced by robots, humans would be on the extinct list. We are part of the animal world and we work, well, unless we waste our time trying to find a worthless cause to waste our time on. K. Faulkner
