Liteyears tunes up Taps for Falls debut
Niagara-Hamilton band raising funds to record first album with producer Howes
They may be 50 per cent Niagara Falls, but Liteyears is going to give 100 per cent for their local debut next week.
The pop rock band with Niagara Falls members Matt Anthony (drums) and Nick Haberer (bass) play a fundraiser at Taps Brewery Friday, Aug. 10. A fundraiser for themselves, mainly: They’re raising money to help record their debut album this fall with two-time Juno Award winner Brian Howes (Hedley, Nickelback).
Anthony says it’s a “unique privilege” to nab a producer such as Howes, who also has a Grammy nomination on his resume.
“We feel like his creative vision can really be a turning point in our careers that will help define the next phase of our band’s evolution.”
Also consisting of singer Brent Wirth and guitarist Brian Wirth (formerly of Hamilton’s Thought Beneath Film), the band has its origins on Kijiji, where they all first met and agreed to meet up afterwards at a Tim Hortons. They’ve since played for Taylor Swift manager Scott Borchetta, One Republic singer Ryan Tedder, and alongside the Hamilton Philharmonic Orchestra. After releasing a five-song EP in 2016 mastered by Bob Ludwig, Anthony replaced original drummer Joey Muha.
In January, the band appeared in the second episode of the CTV reality series “The Launch,” which gives emerging musicians a chance to have their debut single launched commercially on several different platforms (they lost to the Ottawa duo Elijah Woods X Jamie Fine).
Admission to the outdoor, all-ages show at Taps (4680 Queen St., Niagara Falls) is $10. Doors open at 6 p.m.
Also performing will be Avenue Inn, RIUS and Tuscany Music.
