BRAUWEILER, Joseph Rudolph Charles George (Rudy)

-

1929 - 2018

After a long illness, Rudy passed away on July 26th at the Welland Hospital Woolcott Wing in his 89th year. He is survived by his wife Huguette (Dostie) and his children Rodolphe Jr. and Nancy. Predeceased by every member of his family.

Rudy began his working career at Atlas Steel Ltd. for a short period and moved on to Page Hersey Tubes in 1949 applying his trades in maintenance until his retirement in 1988. To keep busy, he retrained himself to become an Income Tax preparer with the volunteer tax program and for 15 years he spent it freely giving his time to the poor and elderly sharing this responsibility with his wife. He travelled extensively for a few more years and in 2008, illness kept him home. He then came out with the idea to make himself a medical gadget (stocking donner) for his own use. With the help of the professors and students from Niagara College, he obtained a grant to prepare for patent application. Not getting discouraged from the first refusal, he rehired a patent designer and it is now almost completed. Unfortunately, Rudy will not see the fruit of his labor. All he wanted was to create an easy way to put these compression stocking so badly needed by patients.

Special thanks go to the doctors, nurses and staff of the 4th, 6th floors, St. Catharines Hospital, Shaver’s and the Woolcott Wing for the excellent care provided to my husband. They really went beyond the call of duty. Thanks also to all the PSW, March of Dimes and nurses who visited at home in the last ten years. Special thanks to Lorraine, Peter, Debby, Sandy, Cedrick and many more who never failed to be present and encouraged us. To our neighbour Andrea who saved his life and Jamie and Andy who helped in every way they could. You were special angels in our life during these difficult times.

There will be no visitation. Cremation has already taken place and a memorial mass will be celebrated at Église Sacré Coeur, 72 Empire St., Welland on Saturday, August 25th at 2 p.m. Arrangements are handled by

WELLAND FUNERAL HOME. In memory of Rudy, donations may be forwarded to Paroisse Sacré Coeur, 72 Empire St., Welland, ON L3B 2L4.
