Magic eke out pro league win over Lightning

In one of the closest matches of the young Niagara 5-Pin Mixed Pro League season, the Dale Mellway Life Insurance Magic pulled a rabbit out of their hat with a 2-1 win over the Lakeside Electrical Lightning in a match decided by a scant nine pins.

Dave Pendlebury took the reins for the Magic, tossing 649 (253) while getting help from Brad Gaudreau’s 641 (257) and Paul Asselin, who rounded things out with 635 (227). The Lightning struck back with Tyler Wendel’s 729 (210, 262, 257) and Adam Eckhardt’s 652 (252, 229).

In other matches, the Ontario Street Boston Pizza Brutes took two of three from the Wine Place Whiners. Brian McFarlane led the winners with a solid 724 (304, 205, 215) while being backed up by Tim Dixon’s 668 (275).

The Whiners answered with Rob Macdonald’s 727 (246, 221, 260).

The Reggie’s Renovation­s Inc. Hammerhead­s knocked off the Oh Canada Eh Dinner Show Canucks 2-1 on the strength of Melina Driver’s 699 (215, 250, 234) and Valerie Vallee’s 636 (235, 205).

The Canucks answered with Chantal Papineau who rolled a solid 765 (223, 322, 220).

In the evening’s final match the Scorecard Harry’s Half Pints edged the Oh Canada Eh Dinner Show Town Criers 2-1.

Shawn Pellizari was the high man for the Half Pints, rolling 751 (220, 336) while being backed up by Shaun Feere’s 698 (266, 224) and Chris Disher’s 680 (282, 228).

The Town Criers replied with Mike Owen’s 717 (280, 223, 214). Kile Robins was right behind with 710 (211, 260, 239) and Brad Maurice’s 666 (235, 267).
