Falcons return home from U.S. with win

Carson Edwardson scored twice and the visiting St. Catharines Falcons doubled the Lockport Regals 4-2 after going up 3-0.

Gage Stephney and Noah Solinger also scored found the back of the net for the Falcons in Wednesday night Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League action in western New York.

Eric Thur and Tim Lopez replied for the hosts who were outshot 42-37 and finished the game 0-for-2 on the power play. St. Catharines went 1-for-1 with a man advantage.

With the win, the Falcons evened their record at 3-3, good enough for third place in the junior B league’s Golden Horseshoe Conference.

Lockport, only team in the 25-team loop that has yet to earn a point, fell to 0-7.

St. Catharines hosts the Fort Erie Meteors, 1-5-0-1, in a 7 p.m. faceoff tonight at Jack Gatecliff Arena. Next action for the Regals is a 2:30 matinee Sunday against the Pelham Panthers at Meridian Community Centre in Fonthill.

Last night’s Golden Horseshoe schedule had the Thorold Blackhawks, 2-5, home to the Niagara Falls Canucks, 7-0.

In their last game the Blackhawks dropped a 6-1 decision on the road to the Hamilton Kilty B’s. Owen Allan scored for Thorold which was outshot 37-29 and lost its fifth in a row after starting the regular season 2-0.

Hamilton’s sixth win in a row improved the rebranded Ancaster Avalanche’s record to 6-1.

The Kilty B’s are tied for second in the Golden Conference with Pelham, also 6-1, two points behind Niagara Falls.

Fourth in the conference, with a 2-3 record, are the Welland Jr. Canadians who visit the Canucks for a 7 p.m. puck drop tonight at Gale Centre.
