Falcons soar to fifth win in a row

The visiting St. Catharines Falcons doubled the Welland Jr. Canadians Sunday night to extend their winning streak in the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League’s Golden Horseshoe Conference to five games.

St. Catharines improved to 6-3 and defeated Welland for the second time in as many meetings this season thanks to two goals from Dawson McKinney and one each from George Stephney and Kyle West.

Michael Arch and Quinn Chevers netted power-goals for the Jr. Canadians who were outshot 46-20.

Welland lost its sixth in a row to fall to 2-8 in league play.

Up next for the Jr. Canadians is a 7:07 p.m. road game Thursday in the opener of a home-andhome series with the Thorold Blackhawks, 3-6. Action shifts to Welland Arena where the series wraps up with a 7:05 faceoff Sunday.

Canucks 6, Panthers 3

At Pelham, Justin Kyle and Matthew Riva each scored twice as Niagara Falls improved to 2-0 against the Panthers in head-in-head play this season and to 11-0 overall.

Harrison Cottam and Mitch Mendonca, on the power play; rounded out the scoring for the Canucks.

Thomas Young, on the power play; Matt Ruigrok and Devon Saunders, both shorthande­d; replied for the Panthers who fell to 8-3 ending a five-game winning streak.

Niagara Falls visits the 8-2 Hamilton Kilty B’s 7 p.m. Monday at Dave Andreychuk Mountain Arena. Next action for Pelham is 7 p.m. Friday against the Falcons at Jack Gatecliff Arena in St. Catharines.

RiverHawks 9, Huskies Jr. Blues 5

After being shut out the night before Niagara had no trouble finding the back of the net in Provincial Junior Hockey League action Sunday in Hamilton.

Tyler Langlais, with two goals; Reid Lowe, Dante Massi, Bailey Pritchard, Derek Pymont, Jacob Saddler, Zach Snider and Tyler Seguin scored for the RiverHawks who improved to 6-4.

The Jr. Huskies Blues, formerly the Dundas Blues, outshot Niagara 40-36.

On Saturday night, the RiverHawks were blanked 2-0 by the Hagersvill­e Hawks, also on the road.

Niagara’s next game is 7:30 p.m. Thursday against the Dunnville Mudcats, 0-7-0-2; at
