Parker not first NRP officer shot

Niagara Regional Police Constable Nathan Parker is in stable condition after being shot by a fellow cop Thursday afternoon in Pelham. The incident is now under investigat­ion by the provincial Special Investigat­ions Unit and the Ontario Provincial Police.

August 1999:

NRP Const. Jeff Latham was shot in the shoulder by a suspect he was putting into cell in St. Catharines. The suspect, Danny Price managed to grab Latham’s service weapon and shoot at him. He was sentenced to six years for the crime.

August 1999:

NRP Const. John Sawicki is injured while pursuing two bank robbers in St. Catharines. One of the robbers fired on Sawicki’s car, hitting the windshield­s and spraying shards of glass over the officer. He was treated for minor injuries and released.

October 2015:

Const. Neal Ridley and Const. Jake Braun are both wounded during a gun battle with Fenwick resident Corey Richardson. Ridley was shot in the shoulder while Braud took a bullet to his foot. Richardson was shot in the head by other officers during the incident. He was charged with attempted murder but was unfit to stand trial due to brain damage.
