Offspring, Sum 41 to play Meridian Centre on Nov. 15
A pop-punk double-header is heading to the Meridian Centre this fall.
The Offspring and Sum 41 will play the St. Catharines arena Nov. 15, with guests Dinosaur Pile-Up. It will be the third stop of a Canadian tour that kicks off Nov. 12 in Halifax.
It’s part of a busy week of rock concerts at the Meridian Centre, which also sees The Arkells play Nov. 9.
From the mid ‘90s to mid ‘00s, both The Offspring and Sum 41 were two of music’s most successful hard rock bands, selling millions of albums. To get them both for one night is a score for Niagara rock fans, says Meridian Centre spokesperson Kay Meilleur.
“Both bands have huge fan bases and major successes in their careers and we can’t wait to see what they bring to our stage.”
Formed in 1984, The Offspring waited 10 years to make their mark with the landmark album “Smash,” which had several rock radio staples (“Come Out and Play,” “Self Esteem,” “Gotta Get Away”). Released the same year as Green Day’s breakthrough 1994 album “Dookie,” it ushered in an era of melodic punk, which included Rancid and NOFX.
Sum 41, led by Scarboroughborn Deryck Jason Whibley, broke big with 2001’s “All Killer, No Filler,” which contained the rowdy hit “Fat Lip.” Fan-favourites “Does This Look Infected?” (2002) and “Chuck” (2004) followed. The band released its seventh album, “Order in Decline,” in April, earning some of the best reviews of its career.
