Top 3 tips for a fulfilling retirement

-

(NC) Many of us spend years dreaming of our retirement, fantasizing about all the free time we’ll have when we’re out of the nine-to-five grind. But when retirement is finally on the horizon, some of us might prefer to fill our schedules with new adventures and experiences.

Here are three solid tips to help you keep busy and continue to feel vital throughout your retirement.

1. Take up a hobby. Deep down, have you always wanted to take an art class, join a choir or learn woodworking? Participating in a new activity can get you inspired and keep your brain active. Plus, it’s a great way to meet new, likeminded friends.

2. Join a gym. Whether you’ve always been a fitness fiend or you’re more of a classic couch potato, retirement is the perfect time to focus on getting active. With an exercise regimen, you can boost mental health, improve your immune system and increase your strength.

3. Get a flexible job. A job doesn’t have to mean working all day, every day. With temporary or parttime employment, you can get the best of both worlds by keeping your flexibility and gaining the chance to stay active and motivated while earning some extra cash.

In January 2021, Statistics Canada will start accepting applications for enumerator and crew leader positions for the 2021 census—the perfect temporary, part-time work for retirees. Enumerators will be collecting census data from respondents by telephone or by going door-to-door, while crew leaders will be leading, training and supervising a team of enumerators.

This type of work is ideal for practicing your interpersonal skills and your ability to stay on-the-ball and organized. You’ll also get to meet lots of new people and connect with your community.
