Kids’ video gets thumbs up from Twisted Sister’s Dee Snider
Niagara Falls brothers perform reworded ‘We’re Not Gonna Take It’
Growing up in the 1980s, Phil Ferraro was a big fan of big hair bands.
And, it appears his sons, Joseph, 14, and Nicholas, 11, have inherited his musical influences.
The siblings recently posted a video of themselves performing Twisted Sister’s 1984 rock anthem “We’re Not Gonna to Take It” — but with a twist.
“The boys were going stir crazy, being stuck at home, and were thinking about things they could do so they decided to rewrite the words to the song,” Ferraro said.
Their version — called “We’re Not Going to Get It” — reflects the current state of the world under the COVID-19 pandemic.
Joseph posted the video on his YouTube channel. To date, the video has garnered more than 2,500 views.
Their performance also caught the attention of Twisted Sister frontman Dee Snider.
The heavy metal band lead singer liked the video and shared it with his 187,000 Twitter followers.
“When I told the boys, they were just ecstatic, they couldn’t believe it,” Ferraro said.
The video inspired the boys’ classmates at Cardinal Newman Catholic Elementary School in Niagara Falls.
Kate Bishop, 13, and her 10year-old brother Lucas created their own pandemic-themed song “The World Will Get Better,”
a reworded version of Taylor Swift’s “Soon You’ll Get Better.”
Their video was also posted on YouTube and, as of Monday, had nearly 1,200 views.
“We just wanted to do something to brighten people’s days,” said dad Rian Bishop.
The principal at Our Lady of
Victory Catholic Elementary School in Fort Erie said he’s finding families are coming up with some very creative ways to pass the time during the school shutdown.
“Anything that helps kids to be creative, and think out of the box, all those things are really great for kids.”
