3 things to know this week
CORNER BROOK MODIFIES CHRISTMAS PLANS
In adherence to COVID-19 safety protocols, the Corner Brook Santa Claus Parade will look a little different this year.
Residents will drive their vehicles through a special display in Corner Brook’s downtown core.
The parade will be complemented by a special show of lights and art. The city will also decorate with lights and other displays.
This year’s theme will be “Traditional Stories” and will see local groups taking ownership of a storybook cover which they will decorate and exhibit for the public to enjoy.
Decorating is scheduled to begin on Dec. 1, with the parade scheduled for the evening of Dec. 12.
CHANGES TO REMEMBRANCE DAY
Remembrance Day ceremonies will be honoured in a unique way this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Small ceremonies will be held in Corner Brook and Stephenville on Nov. 11 with invited guests only.
Due to concerns over limited space and the ability to physically distance, spectators are discouraged.
No parades will be held this year to ensure the safety of the public and veterans.
There also won’t be a Remembrance Day ceremony in the Town of Deer Lake this year.
In addition, the legion will not be selling wreaths this year. If any organization or an individual would still like to contribute in some way, they are encouraged to make a donation to the Poppy Fund. More information can be found at www.legion.ca.
SILVER WOLF BAND PERFORMS
Silver Wolf Band, a four-piece Indigenous folk/pop/rock band from Happy Valley-Goose Bay, will perform at the Rotary Arts Centre in Corner Brook beginning at 8 p.m. on Nov. 15.
The band’s “lively, engaging and self-assured performances of honest and sincere lyrical music has made Silver World Band one of the most in-demand music groups from Labrador.”
