ELMIRA’S CHURCH STREET SEEING SOME CONSTRUCTI­ON AUGUST 2

7:00 AM | A silver Volkswagen Golf driven by a 52-year-old London man was eastbound on Lobsinger Line in Wellesley Township when he had stopped waiting to turn left on to Hackbart Road. A silver Dodge Grand Caravan driven by a 79-year-old Milverton man was also eastbound on Lobsinger Line and was approachin­g the stopped Volkswagen from behind before swerving to the right to go around the VW. The van was unable to get around the VW and struck it, causing it to spin around into the oncoming lane. The Volkswagen was struck by a westbound black Jeep Cherokee driven by a 37-year-old Milton man. Both vehicles spun to a stop after impact. The drivers of the Volkswagen and the Jeep were transporte­d to Grand River Hospital by ambulance with non-life-threatenin­g injuries. The driver of the Grand Caravan was not injured and was charged with ‘careless driving.’ 12:05 PM | A Perth County OPP officer was conducting patrols near Gads Hill when a fast moving southbound Hyundai Sonata was observed. The officer activated the police radar and locked in the Hyundai’s speed at 140 km/h in a zone posted with an 80 km/h speed limit. The vehicle was pulled over and a 37-year-old Scarboroug­h man was issued a summons for ‘race a motor vehicle.’ His driver’s licence was suspended for seven days and his vehicle was removed from the scene. He is to appear at Stratford Court on Sept. 13 to answer to this charge.

AUGUST 3

12:15 PM | A 29-year-old woman was walking on Park Street near Sugar King Drive in Elmira when she was approached by a 61-year-old man who engaged her in conversati­on. At the end of the conversati­on, the male “hugged” the female and sexually assaulted her. Police located the male and he has been charged with ‘sexual assault’ and held for a bail hearing.

AUGUST 5

10:24 PM | Wellington County OPP officers located a parked 2008 Chevrolet with two occupants at the Centre Wellington Community Sportsplex. Police located suspected marijuana in the vehicle and a woman was arrested. A 19-year-old Fergus woman was charged with ‘possession of marijuana under 30 grams.’ She was released at the scene with court documents. She is to appear in Guelph Criminal Court on Sept. 16.
