The owners of 18 horses that perished in a barn fire at the Elmira Raceway are awaiting confirmation that the likely cause of the blaze was faulty electrical equipment. The fire started in the early morning hours of May 13 in the raceway’s barn two, one of a pair of barns located at the northern edge of the raceway’s property at 28 Snyder Ave. S. Firefighters from Elmira and Floradale were dispatched to the scene at 3:30 a.m.
