WCS grillin’ up a fundraiser

-

Woolwich Community Services is inviting the community to their BBQ – for a cause beyond enjoying a burger off the grill.

WCS will be hosting their annual BBQ fundraiser in support of its youth centre August 10 and 11.

“It is just another way to help put money into the program, we have people donating and we have the youth centre silent auction that happens at the maple syrup festival and then we have this BBQ to raise money,” said Tina Reed, coordinator of community support with WCS.

Located at the Woolwich Memorial Centre, the youth centre provides youth from Grade 6 to the age of 19 a safe, supervised and fun environment to enjoy Tuesday to Friday both during the summer (1-10 p.m.) and extended through the academic year after school hours (3-10 p.m.).

Hot dogs, hamburgers, chips, pop, water and ice tea will be served at WCS on the road facing front lawn at 5 Memorial Ave. in Elmira.

All donations and funds raised from the BBQ will go towards supporting the running of the youth centre.

“It is going to go into running the youth centre. We staff the youth centre, we buy sports equipment for the youth and make sure we have computers that work and things for the kids to do,” she said, noting that the BBQ will actually be manned by youth who use the service. The BBQ will run from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday and Friday.
