VOLUNTEERING
Recreation Integration Victoria (RIV) assists people with disabilities to pursue active lifestyles. RIV is a non-profit, inter-municipally funded service that works in partnership with the Victoria Integration Society and the B.C. branch of the Disabled Sailing Association of BC. RIV believes that active living is more than simply living actively. For every one of us, the process of living actively contributes toward our social, mental and emotional well-being. Further, it is associated with co-operation and caring, peace and harmony. Recreation Integration Victoria seeks volunteers for the leisure assistance program. Leisure assistants are matched with a participant and, together, they go out in the community and enjoy recreational or leisure activities. Activities may include: swimming, running, rock-climbing, dancing, golfing, arts and crafts, going for walks, working out at the gym, or hanging out and playing board games. All RIV asks is a minimum commitment of an hour a week for at least two months. You choose with whom you work, what you do together, and when you do it. For more information, please contact Katie St. John at 250-477-6314 ext. 205 or e-mail volunteers@rivonline.org
