-

Wendy Steen Mitchell Dance is located in a beautiful 2000 square foot studio in the heart of Fernwood at 2033 Belmont Ave.Wendy’s studio is now in its 42nd year of operation, and so dancers can expect well-rounded dance training, building on a strong foundation of ballet technique, with options to explore other styles including jazz, modern, lyrical, tap and hip hop, all in a nurturing and inspiring environment. Indeed, most of Wendy’s teachers have danced with her since they were young, and together this team brings a wealth of experience and amazing creativity. The studio also offers extensive performance opportunities to students who demonstrate hard work, commitment and a true love of dance and performance. Over the past several years, students in the three performing companies have entered group pieces and solos in the Greater Victoria Performing Arts and Danceworks Festivals, receiving trophies and awards for their performances. They have also performed in special events around the city.

Dancers who wish to formalize their training, have the option of participating in ballet, tap and modern theatre exams through the internationally recognized standards of the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) and the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing (ISTD).As dance truly is a performing art,Wendy offers all students, from preschoolers through to adults, the opportunity to perform in the year-end show at UVIC centre. This is the highlight of the year’s work.

Classes range in age from three to five years (Barely Ballet and Tap-Jazz combo) to Advanced classes for 13 – 18 year olds, as well as an Alumni Jazz class for older dancers. First-time new students may try the first two classes without obligation. Classes reduce in price as more hours are taken each week, and after 6 1/2 class hours per week, any additional (level appropriate) classes are without extra charge. Siblings also receive a price break on classes.Wendy’s studio offers around 40 classes over many levels.

The studio space is open and filled with natural light. Approaching on Bay, Shelbourne or Fernwood, the studio can be found at the corner of Pembroke and Belmont. There is plenty of parking with amenities nearby in Fernwood Village, to keep parents busy while students are learning to dance.
