Massage therapists enjoy career options
Massage therapy is one of Canada’s fastest growing healthcare fields. In the new landscape of healthcare, amidst a faltering conventional healthcare system and the phenomenal growth of complimentary and alternative medicine, massage therapy is proving to be a vital component of alternative health care.
Massage therapy is an extremely versatile and practical treatment for many conditions. Therapeutic massage has proven to positively affect the muscular, nervous and circulatory systems, to rehabilitate physical injuries and improve health.Anyone with pain or dysfunction arising from injury or physical disorders of the soft tissues and joints of the body, or people with systemic disorders affecting circulation, digestion or general well-being will benefit from massage therapy.
Students who complete the required 20 month full-time diploma program may write the provincial board exams to become registered massage therapists. Some of the career options for massage therapists include: chiropractic clinic, homeopathic clinics, health spas, cruise ships or private practice.WCCMT’s articulation agreements with Thomson Rivers University allows our students advance standing to complete a Bachelors in Health Science degree.
Since 2001 WCCMT’s students have volunteered their time treating a variety of patients through community and charitable events who would not ordinarily have the opportunity to receive a therapeutic treatment. WCCMT’s students have been treating patients at Mt. St. Mary’s, Luther Court and Nigel House since 2006 and The Garth Homer Society since 2010.
We also have a variety of charitable and sports events that we volunteer at on an annual basis. Some of these events include: Subaru Tri Series;TC10k run; Easter Seals 24 hour Relay for CF; MS Kick for the Cure; and the MS Grape Bike Escape. On average we participate in over 60 events a year, on top of our weekly placements, totalling close to 1000 hours of volunteer participation in the community each year.
