Shelbourne Street needs bicycle solution
Four or five times a week, I travel along Shelbourne Street, and often there will be a very conspicuous bicyclist riding in the middle of the right-hand lane. This might occur during slack times or at busy, rushhour times.
There is obviously no way for a motorist to pass this cyclist while remaining in the same lane. The motorist must move (at least partly) into the other, same-direction travel lane. The result is one vehicle travel lane that might be delayed by any leftturning motorist.
Perhaps, if there were a designated bicycle lane and a motor-vehicle lane in the same direction, plus a bi-directional leftturning centre lane, traffic would move more efficiently than the present system when the outside lane is fully occupied by a cyclist. James Grayson Saanich
