Clean energy co-ops build careers

-

With one of Canada’s largest co-op employment programs, UVic is supporting career development and dynamic learning for students—with substantial benefits for co-op employers in Greater Victoria.

For example, Victoria-based LED and solar technology provider Carmanah Technologies Corporation—one of 1,130 organizations that offer co-op experiences to UVic students—has brought in 22 UVic students since 2011, hiring eight of them into full-time positions after graduation. Carmanah is putting students at the forefront of emerging clean energy technologies, and welcoming and mentoring them in exemplary ways.

The company is one of many successful firms—including more than 70 technology firms started by UVic graduates—driving Greater Victoria’s high-tech sector.
