Second woman sexually assaulted at bus stop

-

Another woman has reported a sexual assault at a Douglas Street bus stop, but Victoria police said it’s too early to say if it’s linked to a similar incident the day before.

The woman was sitting at a bus stop in the 1700 block of Douglas Street at about 10 p.m. on Thursday when a man sat next to her, said Victoria police spokesman Const. Matt Rutherford.

The two began talking and just before her bus arrived, the man sexually assaulted the woman. She was not injured.

The woman reported the incident to police on Saturday after Victoria police released information about a similar sexual assault last Wednesday.

The woman said she noticed a clean, newer white truck in the area, and police believe the occupants of the truck might have seen the suspect. Officers are looking to speak with any witnesses.

The man is described as Caucasian, between 25 and 35 years old, and about six feet tall. He had a dark hoodie pulled over his head, exposing only his face. He has a big nose with a dark mole or mark on the right side of his face, which was clean-shaven.

The incident is similar to an assault about 8 a.m. Wednesday. An 18-year-old woman reported she was touched by a man who sat next to her at a bus stop in the 1400 block of Douglas Street.

The man in that incident is described as white, between 25 and 35, and five-foot-eight with a medium build. He has long dark brown or black dreadlocks, a pointed nose, facial stubble and pierced ears.

“While too early to confirm that this incident is related to the Feb. 8 incident, police are asking people to be vigilant while at bus stops in the downtown area,” Rutherford said.

Anyone with information is asked to call Victoria police at 250-995-7654 or anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
