Three western provinces ought to go it alone

-

With B.C., Alberta and Saskatchewan contributing $18 billion in equalization payments in 2017-18, it’s time for a change.

Time to separate the three Western provinces to become Western Canada.

The benefits would be huge. Aside from the economics, we can make new rules: No Senate. One “official” language. No corporate donors (B.C. Liberals) or grants (Bombardier).

Elected politicians no longer allowed to give themselves raises in pay and benefits (cost of living only) and no pensions until age 65.

No Charter of Rights and Freedoms. (When I grew up we sang O Canada and read from the Bible every day and in every class.)

The election wouldn’t be decided before our polls close in B.C.

No new taxes, no new reductions in claims (to which the Armed Forces were recently subjected).

The flag would remain the same, but only the left half of the Maple Leaf, and we already have an airline, WestJet. Bill Meyer Victoria
