CRD’s cash bucket needs to be fixed
Re: “CRD directors must step up on sewage project,” comment, Feb. 18. I am pleased to see a second op-ed regarding the excessive salaries of sewage directors and the arm’s-length involvement of the Capital Regional District. I have made many objections to the salaries, and subsequently to the lack of CRD oversight in terms of how the “authorized money” is spent, to both councillors and the mayor herself, only to be told, among other things, that the salaries are a “drop in the bucket” compared with the size of the project, and that the people involved are doing a great job — no specifics except mention of many “meetings.”
Perhaps there are some who remember the old song, There’s a Hole in My Bucket, which springs to mind at these responses. The salaries are enhanced without anyone being accountable, and this bucket never seems to get fixed, either.
We are going to pay for every drip — although we still don’t know how much. To the CRD — how shall we mend it, dear members, dear members? Anne Spencer Victoria
