Are you a Social Senior?

- silverthreads.ca

A s we get older, it can become all too easy to lose our existing social connections and hard to build new ones. For some, walking into a party is enjoyable; small talk and meeting new people is fun. We often call these folks Social Seniors. Then there’s the rest of us. Some social events are awkward or even uncomfortable; it’s easier to stay home.

As we age, we understand the importance of staying physically active, monitoring our health and eating well. Equally important is to have supportive and loving relationships and friends to connect, talk and laugh with. It can be tough to do, but the benefits are worth the effort. Silver Threads Service provides opportunities and support to help you connect in an environment where you can learn how to be a Social Senior if you aren’t already.

The Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner program at Saanich Silver Threads, 286 Hampton Road, is offered twice a month on Wednesday evenings. This is a perfect opportunity to get out of the house, have dinner and enjoy some musical entertainment. Not too fancy but affordable and welcoming, the next dinner will be on March 15 at 5 p.m. Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with roast beef in Guinness sauce, and apple pie for dessert. Dinner is followed by music from the Celtic Reflections. Reservations and details at: 250-382-3151.

The Ageless Love Series is designed for seniors who are looking to build healthy, positive relationships: this may be an existing relationship you want to enhance or a new one you hope to develop. Join this group to discover some new ideas and opportunities.
