$27.6-billion year pushes Amazon CEO to third on billionaire list
Those Amazon Prime memberships are adding up for Jeff Bezos.
The online retailer’s CEO made more money than anyone on the planet last year, raking in a whopping $27.6 billion US. That bumped him up to the third spot on Forbes’ annual Billionaires List, ranking the world’s richest people.
Reigning champ Bill Gates held onto the No.1 spot for the fourth year in a row with $86 billion, Forbes reported (up from $75 billion last year) and with the Oracle of Omaha, Warren Buffett, taking back the second spot after surging $14.8 billion to $75.6 billion.
Bezos rounded out the top three with a total of $72.8 billion.
U.S. President Donald Trump slid dramatically on the billionaire’s list, dropping 220 spots from No. 324 to a 20-way tie for 544th place. But America’s first billionaire president is still worth $3.5 billion, so No. 544 ain’t too shabby.
Forbes said it was the first time it recorded more than 2,000 billionaires, and last year saw the biggest year over year increase in billionaires since the publication started tracking them 31 years ago. 1. Bill Gates: $86 billion 2. Warren Buffett: $75.6 billion 3. Jeff Bezos: $72.8 billion 4. Amancio Ortega: $71.3 billion 5. Mark Zuckerberg: $56 billion 6. Carlos Slim Helu: $54.5 billion 7. Larry Ellison: $52.2 billion 8. Charles Koch: $48.3 billion 9. David Koch: $48.3 billion 10. Michael Bloomberg: $47.5 billion
