Lorde lined up for awards gig
TORONTO — Lorde will be at this year’s IHeartRadio Much Music Video Awards, but whether her lamp will make an encore performance remains to be seen.
The New Zealander is among the first round of artists announced for the televised street party in Toronto on June 18. It will be Lorde’s second time at the MMVAs.
When the singer appeared at the event in 2014, she prominently featured a floor lamp in her performance of the hits Team and Tennis Court.
The moment caught fire on social media and inspired the Twitter account LordesLamp in response to the unusual performance.
Other artists slated to perform include Iggy Azalea, Cake By the Ocean singers DNCE, and Imagine Dragons, known for their hits Radioactive and Demons.
Rounding out the first wave of performers is Toronto-based Jazz Cartier, fresh off his Juno Awards win for best rap recording, and Julia Michaels, whose single Issues is climbing the upper echelons of the Billboard Hot 100.
The MMVAs will air on Much, CTV and stream through the IHeartRadio app. Nominees and a host for the awards show will be announced in May.
