Home show a fundraiser for youth

- PEDRO ARRAIS

Pick up tips on home renovations and help teens at same time at the Young Life Home Design and Renovation Tour on Saturday throughout Greater Victoria.

Take a self-guided tour of eight inspiring home renovations, with a variety of projects to suit a wide range of tastes and budgets.

The tour is an opportunity to form a vision of what you can do in your own space by admiring examples of innovative design solutions. One can also appreciate the fine workmanship by some of Victoria’s designers and builders.

This year’s homes include several re-builds as well as specially redesigned kitchens and family rooms. Properties include waterfront homes and residences with spectacular views of the city. Homes this year are located in Oak Bay and Victoria, including Fairfield.

Properties include a 1930s character home in the Cook Street Village, a relocated, waterfront heritage home on Dallas Road, a converted church (featured in the House Beautiful section of the Times Colonist last week), a 4,000square-foot renovation in the Uplands area and an oceanfront new build on Ten Mile Point. Organizers expect to see more than 1,000 visitors at the fundraising event, which is in its 27th year.

Proceeds support youth programs provided by the Victoria chapter of Young Life International, a Christian-based organization that has cared for young people since 1961. Money raised funds the group’s outreach programs for teenagers, camps and staff requirements.

Passport-style tickets for the selfguided tour are $25. The event runs 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at various locations in Greater Victoria. Tickets are available at several outlets (list on website) or by calling the Young Life office at 250-634-3223. For more information, go to younglife.ca/ victoria-home-tour.

You can enter to win a pair of tickets by sending an email to contest@ timescolonist.com. Put Young Life in the subject line and give us your name and phone number. Deadline is noon today.
