Sea Cider social kicks off 10-day fest

-

B.C. Cider Week comes to Victoria on Sunday with the third Sea Cider Social at Sea Cider Farm and Ciderhouse.

The social, part of a 10-day festival of cider events across the province running through May 7, runs from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the cidery at 2487 Mount St. Michael Rd. in Saanichton.

Twenty cideries from across Western Canada and the Pacific Northwest will come together at Sea Cider Farm and Cider House to showcase their cider styles and flavour profiles at an event that launches province-wide events celebrating all things cider.

Now in its third year, B.C. Cider Week was moved this year from harvest season in October to spring to better coincide with when people are drinking more cider.

“We’re so excited to host such a diverse line-up of cideries to kick off B.C. Cider Week,” said Kristen Needham, Sea Cider owner and cidermaster. “We have seen amazing growth in British Columbia’s cider industry, and with that an expansion in the range of styles and flavour profiles, much like in the craft beer industry. There is a lot more room for innovation and events like these let cideries show that off.”

Tickets are available for $20 or $35 including a shuttle from downtown. Tickets include six cider tasting tickets. Additional tickets for cider and food can be purchased for $2 each. There will also be live entertainment from Jon Middleton of Jon & Roy.

Other B.C. Cider Week events include the British Columbia Cider Festival at Heritage Hall in Vancouver on Saturday and the Okanagan Craft Cider Festival in Kelowna May 6.
