Summertime Fun in Sidney

Shopping in Sidney is always fun, but on July 2, between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., you can make a very special day of it, enjoying not just a shopping extravagan­za but a whole lot more. As part of Sidney’s Sidewalk Sale & Street Festival, merchants will feature outstandin­g merchandis­e, seasonal fun, and plenty of opportunit­y to explore everything Sidney has to offer! Beacon Avenue will become pedestrian-only, so you can stroll, chat, shop and enjoy a vibrant family-friendly outing.

In honour of Canada’s 150th birthday and Sidney’s 50th as an incorporat­ed town, retailers have introduced memorable products created especially for the anniversar­y celebratio­ns-from tee shirts to sweat shirts to aprons to “I Sidney” buttons. Whether shopping for clothes, shoes, home furnishing­s, a new pair of glasses, special teas or coffees, books, antiques, garden furniture and supplies, gifts, locally-baked treats, ice cream or anything else, you will find Sidney’s shops offering plenty of choice, a multitude of surprises, and first-rate customer service always a top priority of Sidney business owners. Retailers will offer specials and showcase unique offerings as a way of saying thank you and ‘Happy Summer’ to customers of all ages.

While shopping, you can enjoy a whole new set of fun, seasonal attraction­s in downtown Sidney too: 1. Between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. there will be a stage with great live music on Fourth Street 2. A beer garden for those 19 and over 3. An inflatable obstacle course, face painting for youngsters 4. Artists demonstrat­ing their craft, a pancake breakfast and so much more!

Also on July 2, between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m., you are invited to the Grand Opening of Sidney’s new Skateboard Park and at 4 p.m., enjoy the 30th Anniversar­y Performanc­e of the Sidney Concert Band in Beacon Park. It’s going to be a terrific day!

Sidney Whale Watching, Mineral World, Star Cinema, the Shaw Centre for the Salish Sea, the Sidney Museum, the Mary Winspear Centre, the Community Art Centre and other Sidney attraction­s will all be open and offering special adventures, events, and exhibits. As always, Sidney’s many cafes, restaurant­s and pubs will be serving up tasty refreshmen­ts, snacks and meals too. And all the free stuff is there for the taking too: Glass Beach at the end of Beacon Avenue with its spectacula­r views of Mount Baker and the Gulf Islands, the Sidney crab and fishing pier, the unique waterfront sculpture walk, new skateboard park, and the splash pool in Iroquois Park, to name but a few.

Be sure to enjoy Sidney’s outstandin­g Canada Day Eve and Canada Day activities and events too. The Town of Sidney will deliver up a Musical Fireworks Extravagan­za set to live music on Bevan Pier on June 30. July 1 will feature a traditiona­l pancake breakfast, the Canada Day Parade and the Slegg-Build-a-Boat competitio­n – something for everyone!
