Historical editorials widen our understanding
May we tell you how much we have enjoyed the series of articles taken from the Daily British Colonist and Victoria Chronicle of 150 years ago. This series has contributed toward our understanding of the opinions leading up to the confederation of the three provinces into Canada.
There were of course, many differing opinions concerning the Canadian confederation on Vancouver Island and the mainland of British Columbia and these differences continued for the next four years leading up to the moment, on July 20, 1871, when British Columbia entered into the Confederation. There were those whose opinions on Confederation differed from those of the editor, David W. Higgins, in 1867. Perhaps these would be of interest to your readers.
We hope you can continue the series of articles into this history until we reach the sesquicentennial for B.C. joining Canada. Ken Johnson President Hallmark Heritage Society Victoria
