How sweet it is to eat s’mores at the campground

-

Introduce visitors or new Canadians to the magic of a Canadian campfire at Smores ’n’ More, a program offered by Parks Canada at McDonald Campground in Sidney every Saturday in July and August.

Due to the fire ban, a propane fire will be used at the event.

People can join an interpreter and guest presenters to sing songs and listen to park stories.

Participants will enjoy s’mores, a campfire treat made from a marshmallow and a layer of chocolate sandwiched between two graham crackers.

Bring along a mug for hot chocolate to wash it all down.

The activity is ideal for families with children 12 and under.

Also at McDonald Campground, discover what constitutes a clam garden at the Coast Salish Clam Garden Campfire program on July 15.

A clam garden is similar to a vegetable garden in your backyard.

Members of the Coast Salish Nations have tended beaches to create an ideal growing environment to grow and harvest clams.

Learn more about clam gardens, listen to Coast Salish stories and taste Coast Salish traditional foods around a campfire.

Both events are free to attend (you need not be a camper at the park).

The Smores ’n’ More program runs 7 to 8 p.m. every Saturday through July and August.

The Coast Salish Clam Garden Campfire takes place 7 to 8 p.m. July 15.

Both events take place at the group campfire ring at McDonald Campground, 10740 McDonald Park Rd., North Saanich. Please park at the adjacent Blue Heron Park and follow the signs to the campground.
