Times Colonist ignoring newsworthy events

-

In frustration with the Times Colonist, I have recently subscribed to the Vancouver Province and Vancouver Sun in order to read “both sides of a story” on important issues.

Regrettably, your writers are providing commentaries that have become so predicable and repetitive in philosophy that they become uninteresting and boring. Upon discovering that the writer is identified as yet another “expert” from university, I simply ignore the article, which is not desirable either.

You are ignoring some of the most newsworthy events by not reporting on them. On July 18, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau proposed some of the most draconian tax changes that small business has had to face in 45 years, which would result in small business paying a tax rate of 73 per cent on dividends.

The other newspapers have published articles prepared by tax lawyers and accountants explaining the proposals and demonstrating how they ignore fundamental concepts of integration that our tax system has been based upon since 1972.

With all of the experienced CPAs in Victoria, I am surprised that it has not occurred to you to ask them to provide truly “expert” analysis.

Your Aug. 6 edition filled the first and second pages with “fluff” pictures of Trudeau.

Trudeau might be a good-looking young man, but his lack of life experience when it comes to small business makes him a dangerous man to the Canadian economy, and your gushing treatment of him as a “rock star” puts the Times Colonist in the same category as Rolling Stone magazine.
