Colwood Seaside Festival at Fort Rodd Hill

Where elese can you take a free horse drawn carriage ride along the ocean by a lighthouse, and then enjoy live music and entertainm­ent, historic tours, arts and craft activities and more? Get ready for the Colwood Seaside Festival at Fort Rodd Hill and Fisgard Lighthouse National Historic Site – on Sunday, Sept 17, between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.

Step back in time at this free, family event with fun activities happening in every corner of the breathtaki­ng heritage site by the ocean. There will be historic (and ghostly) tours with renowned historian and storytelle­r, John Adams; hear tales of eccentric characters, heroic deeds, intrigue, love, humour … and ghosts.

The site will be full of activities. Watch a magician, do your own archaeolog­y dig, take a tour, learn how heritage artisans spin wool and take tin type photograph­s, meet folks in vintage costumes.You can dress up, too, at the Vintage Selfie Station set against the backdrop of Fisgard Lighthouse.

This event features live musical performanc­es by three local bands. Cookeilidh mixes the tunes of Ireland and Scotland with a Maritime flavour and a dash of Folk to make you feel like you are at a modern day kitchen party with friends. The Big Weee brings their own brand of Wonky Tonk that mixes original tunes and bluegrass covers that will have you dancing and smiling for sure. Smiley Brothers will make you smile with a wide range of favourites from the 60s, 70s, 80s pop, rock and country.

Favourite local food trucks will be on site offering a variety of food and drinks for sale.

Throughout the event, artists will be participat­ing in the Paint-In at the Fort. Up to 40 artists will be stationed around the site, painting their vantage point‘en plein air’. Artwork will be adjudicate­d to determine the first, second and third place winners, and will be displayed for sale following the event.The Colwood Seaside Festival is a home-grown community event with free admission to Fort Rodd Hill and a ton of free activities.
