Extra sailings for long weekend
Travellers will have 90 extra B.C. Ferries sailings — including some at midnight — to choose from during the Thanksgiving long weekend.
B.C. Ferries has added 82 sailings on the Tsawwassen-Swartz Bay route alone, including 6 a.m. departures on Friday, Saturday, Monday and Tuesday, and midnight departures on Friday and Monday.
On the Horseshoe Bay-Departure Bay route, extra sailings are being added at peak times.
Discounted fares are being offered on select early morning and late evening sailings.
Corrine Storey, B.C. Ferries’ vice-president of customer services, said the busiest day is likely to be Monday.
“The holiday Monday of the Thanksgiving long weekend is traditionally the most popular day of the year for foot passengers,” she said.
Friday afternoon and Saturday morning are also expected to be busy.
Flexibility can pay off for travellers willing to consider a different route or time.
Storey said passengers might want to consider travelling before noon on Monday to avoid peak travel times. Duke Point tends to be less congested than Departure Bay, so Vancouverbound passengers can consider that option.
The company is offering discounted fares on select early morning and late evening sailings.
