God gave us free will to choose good or evil

-

Re: “So why did God allow so many to die in Las Vegas?” Oct. 7. The Bible has the answers and they are not complicated.

First of all, the physical, chemical and all other “laws of nature” set in motion by God at creation do not change for our convenience. Their constancy keeps us alive and can kill us. Too little water and you die; too much and you drown. The friendly fire that warms, when out of control, kills.

Hurricanes, tornadoes, volcanic eruptions, floods are all natural occurrences. We know that, but we still choose to live in areas where we know they will be repeated seasonally.

As far as the tragedy in Las Vegas is concerned: God had nothing to do with it. If we wish to blame God in any way, we can say it was His fault because He gave us our free will. But who among us would want to be an automaton?

God does allow tragedies to happen; that’s true. Sometimes, according to Bible history, He causes them. But consider that in the 20th century, more than 200 million deaths were caused by wars, personal violence and mankind’s inhumanity to each other.

The world will continue to turn. Gravity will continue to do its job. The sun and moon will appear and disappear right on schedule. Mankind will continue to exercise free will for good or evil.

God will still be in His heaven whether we choose to praise, blaspheme or ignore Him. He gave us the free will to choose which it will be. Jack Clover Victoria
