Fun, games and self-discovery for the over-50 set

-

Discover opportunities for engagement and adventure at the MidLife Show, Saturday at the Victoria Conference Centre.

This is the third year for the event, aimed at the over-50 set.

“Somewhere in their 50s or 60s, people find that reduced demands of work and family give them more time for themselves, and many enter a new period of self-discovery,” said Barbara Newton, executive producer of the show. “We want to showcase the many opportunities this demographic has for learning, activity and involvement.”

More than 100 exhibitors are expected to be in attendance. Areas of expertise include travel, food, home renovations, fitness, fashion, conservation, continuing education, hobbies and family.

Speakers and demonstrations are scheduled for throughout the day, from Crystal Cruises at 11 a.m. to a vintage furniture repainting demo by ReLoving Furniture at 3 p.m.

The workshops start with love coach Lynn Goodacre offering tips on connecting after 50 at 11 a.m., and closes with a selfdefence seminar by Victoria Professional Self-Defence at 4 p.m.

“Studies show that retirees who forge a new identity through active pursuits and using their skills in new ways fare very well physically and emotionally in retirement,” Newton said. “We want to help people make the best of this exciting time.”

Admission is $5 online or at the door. Organizers will donate 20 per cent of ticket sales at the door to the Greater Victoria Eldercare Foundation. Admission to the show includes admission to the Tastes and Spirits sampling space. The event runs 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at the Victoria Conference Centre, 720 Douglas St. For more information, go to victoria.midlifeshow.com.
