Victoria can boast having one of the most successful institutional IMAX Theatres in the world. It is admired throughout the industry for maintaining a highlyengaged audience and leading the way in the installation of the latest technology meant to truly wow that audience. IMAX Victoria in the Royal BC Museum was one of the first in the world to install the IMAX 4K laser projection and sound system. The million-dollar system was created to not only replicate but to even exceed the quality of the original film used for large format projection. It is the only digital system the can fill the giant 61’ high x 85’ wide (18.59m x 25.9m) screen from edge to edge. Filling the entire screen is imperative to the full IMAX experience – the screen fills your peripheral vision and pulls you into the action, making your experience so much more than just seeing a movie. The picture is complemented by the immersive sound system that exceeds anything you’ve heard elsewhere. From a jet engine to a pin drop, the sound is incredible. Filmmakers admire the system as well. Director Christopher Nolan insists on his films being presented in IMAX. His most recent epic, the emotionally charged Dunkirk is returning to the theatre on Dec. 1 to 7 as the studio re-releases the blockbuster on giant screens. And Polar Express, the perennial Christmas favourite, is also returning to the screen – remastered to take full advantage of the brilliant colours of laser projection. This will be the 12th year the film has made a return engagement. The 4K laser version proved so popular in 2016 (the first year it was seen in laser) that the theatre added another 10 shows this year. Many who return to see Polar

Express year after year are people who have an IMAX Annual Pass. The pass, which is available starting in November of each year, gives the holder unlimited access to all IMAX documentary films in both 2D and 3D, and for just $5, they can attend Hollywood feature films such as Dunkirk and Polar

Express. It truly is the best bargain in town at just $51.25, and it makes a great gift.
