Sendial is a grocery shopping and delivery program that does shopping for individuals who, because of injury, frailty or other physical reason, are unable to shop independently. This programis available to adults of all ages on a temporary or permanent basis for a $5 delivery fee. 2017 marks the 30th anniversary of Sendial which began at the Fairfield location on Jan. 13 in1987. The program started with 50 customers and five volunteers. Today, over 700 customers are served weekly. The number of volunteers has grown to more than 550, and these people provide service out of 24 stores. Sendial is made possible through the generous hearts and hands of its dedicated volunteers. We are grateful for the commitment of this amazing team, who work incredibly hard to quietly help people within our community. Volunteers are tasked with taking and shopping customer’s orders. Occasionally, openings become available. Volunteers commit to a single, two- to four-hour volunteer shift each week – typically on a weekday morning. Over 30 per cent of our volunteers have been with Sendial for more than 10 years. During a recent survey, the volunteers used words such as ‘rewarding’, ‘satisfying’ and ‘fulfilling’ to describe their experience. If you need shopping help or would like to discuss volunteering, contact our customer care team at: 250-544-1234 or: 1-800-667-8280 (press 2).
