Chamber honours Hasham as its member of the year

-

Al Hasham might be stepping away from the head of the board table, but the Greater Victoria Chamber of Commerce is not letting the entrepreneur go quietly.

Hasham, who steps down as the chair of the board at the end of the year, has been named the chamber’s member of the year.

“Al Hasham is not only exceptionally hard-working as a businessman in the community, but he is also a tireless volunteer who never thinks twice to say yes when asked for help,” said incoming chamber chair Dan Dagg. “Whether offering complimentary delivery services to local charities or sharing his leadership and business experience as a mentor to young entrepreneurs just starting out, he is always giving 100 per cent.”

Hasham has been an active member of the chamber for more than 30 years.

For the last eight years, he has been on the chamber’s board of directors, the last two as its chair.

The award recognizes an individual who has served as a chamber volunteer by taking an active role in committees or on the board, and who has promoted and fostered relationships with the community.

The chamber will announce its lifetime achievement award in January, and the finalists for the annual Victoria business awards will be announced in February.

The annual awards gala will be held May 10 at the Fairmont Empress Hotel.
