Say thank you to your family doctor

-

Re: “Doctors’ burden includes offensive editorials,” letter, Dec. 5.

My husband and I have been fortunate enough to have Dr. Judith Jones as our family physician for more than 20 years. My husband has a complicated medical life, and Dr. Jones has always been there to ensure he has the best and appropriate care in testing, referring to specialists, interpreting results and providing caring support. Dr. Jones always gives us adequate time to answer our many questions and address our concerns.

I practised as a registered nurse for 35 years and worked with many wonderful doctors.

We do not need to criticize our physicians, we need to support them and appreciate them. We have thousands of people in this city with no family physician and that is a huge problem. Let us all support our physicians and be grateful for their care.

Spend research money on ways to support our physicians, not criticize. We do not want to end up with diminishing numbers of family physicians to provide our care or drive them to early retirement.

Be sure to thank your family physician every time you see them. Remember you are the fortunate ones, as thousands in our city do not have a family physician. We need them.

Thank you, Dr. Jones. We, as two of your many patients, appreciate everything you do for us.
