A novel reworking of the classic fairytale of Sleeping Beauty tale can be found in this Christmas panto full of fun the whole family. Filled with humour, dancing, music and audience participat­ion. At her christenin­g, Princess Aurora is blessed by a group of fairies but cursed by a wicked fairy who was inadverten­tly left off the guest list. However, her life appears to be developing normally until her 17th birthday, when she pricks her finger and falls asleep for a hundred years. She is awakened by a young prince from nearby Langford (who is also the son of the wicked fairy) and who is expected to marry her – but there seems to be a snag. The local shopkeeper, her son and a young fairy try to help Aurora find a solution to the snag but the wicked fairy, aided by her henchmen, does her best to thwart their plans. Winspear Festival of Trees Until Tuesday, Jan. 2, 5 p.m.

The Winspear Festival of Trees will be open to the public from until Jan. 2. Visit the Centre and cast a vote for your favourite tree. With more than 20 beautiful and unique Christmas trees decorated by local businesses and community groups, it will be hard to choose just one. Donations of new unwrapped toys (ages 6 months - 16 years) for the Peninsula Santa’s Helpers are being accepted until Dec. 15.

Parkland Secondary School Sidney Concert Band presents an entertaini­ng evening of family-friendly seasonal music, vocals and an audience sing-along.
