Choir, brass, piano join to celebrate Night Before the Night Before

The CapriCCio Vocal Ensemble will perform a mix of a cappella and accompanie­d seasonal works for choir, brass and piano, under the direction of Michael Gormley, at their Night Before the Night Before concert at Christ Church Cathedral on Saturday.

At their annual Christmas concert, the group will be joined by pianist Jane Edler-Davis, the Victoria Brass, whose members include Stevan Paranosic and David Michaux, trumpets, Alana Despins, horn, Matt McConchie, trombone and Robert Fraser, bass trombone.

Saturday’s program includes Lully, Lulla, Lullay, Psallite and Es ist ein Ros entsprunge­n, I saw Three Ships, Swedish carol Jul, jul, strålande jul (Christmas, shining Christmas) and two Spanish carols: ¡Oh mi Belén (Oh Bethlehem) and Venid pastorcito­s (O come little shepherds).

The brass players will perform popular works including Carol of the Bells and Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas.

No CapriCCio Christmas concert would be complete without audience participat­ion in carol singing with the magnificen­t Wolff organ and brass.

Tickets are $25 adults, $22 seniors, $10 student/ youth and free for accompanie­d children 12 and younger. The concert starts at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Christ Church Cathedral, 930 Burdett Ave. Tickets are available at Ivy’s Bookshop, Long and McQuade, Christ Church Cathedral office, at the door or online at capriccio.ca.
