Victoria rink into B.C. junior curling final

Taylor Reese-Hansen took the long route, but the Victoria Curling Club skip will play for a B.C. junior curling championsh­ip this morning in Langley.

Reese-Hansen, with Catera Park at third, Jordan Koster at second and lead Sydney Brilz, will face Sarah Daniels of the Royal City club in the junior women’s final at 11 a.m.

Reese-Hansen, who finished third in the round-robin standings, defeated Kimberley’s Alysha Buchy 8-7 in the Page 3-4 game and then downed Elizabeth Bowles of Royal City 7-3 in the semifinal on Friday.

Daniels, the favourite, downed Bowles 11-5 in the Page 1-2 game to advance straight to the final.

The winner of today’s championsh­ip game will represent B.C. at the 2018 New Holland Canadian Junior Men’s and Women’s Curling Championsh­ips, Jan. 13-21 in Quebec at the Centre municipal de curling de Shawinigan and the Aréna de Grand-Mère.

Meanwhile in junior men’s play, Alex Horvath’s VCC rink lost 7-2 to defending champion Tyler Tardi of Langley in the Page 1-2 game and then lost 10-3 to Dawson Ballard of Royal City in the semifinal. Horvath’s team included Ryan Cassidy at third, Zane Bartlett at second and Tim Henderson at lead.

The junior men’s final is slated for 3 p.m. and both championsh­ip finals will be livestream­ed on Curl BC TV at sportscana­da.tv/curlbc.
