The funeral for two young girls found dead in their father’s Oak Bay home on Christmas Day will take place next week.

Chloe and Aubrey Berry’s funeral will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 12 at Victoria’s Christ Church Cathedral on Burdett Street, said Trisha Lees, a friend of the girls’ mother, Sarah Cotton. The funeral is open to the public. Hundreds of people attended a candlelight vigil in honour of the girls last Saturday at Willows Beach, a spot where the girls loved to play.

Cotton is establishing a memorial fund to honour her daughters.

The Chloe and Aubrey Berry Scholarship Fund will support scholarships at Christ Church Cathedral School, on Vancouver Street, where Chloe, 6, was a student in Grade 1. Aubrey, 4, went to St. Christopher’s Montessori school in Oak Bay, which has preschool and kindergarten classes.

Sandra Richardson, CEO of the Victoria Foundation which is facilitating donations, said many people have made donations since the fund was announced Thursday.

“There is great energy and activity around giving already,” she said. “It just shows a really heartfelt support of community around this.”

The girls’ father, 43-year-old Andrew Berry, is charged with two counts of second-degree murder in the deaths of Chloe and Aubrey, who were found by police in his Beach Drive apartment on Dec. 25.

Berry was found in the apartment with self-inflicted injuries and taken to hospital. He was arrested and charged Wednesday when he was released from hospital.

Berry made a brief appearance in Victoria provincial court on Thursday. The case was adjourned until Feb. 1 to give Berry time to contact and hire a lawyer.
