NDP made right decision on Site C

-

I am a very conservative guy because I grew up under communist rule, and therefore I would never vote for NDP or Greens or Liberals. However, I must give our new NDP/Green alliance big credit for continuation of the Site C dam.

Reasons are many: We will need much more energy in the future, especially as electric/hybrid cars will likely become more popular. An electric car needs about 20 kWh of energy to travel 100 kilometres. That means that a person driving about 1,000 km per month needs about 200 kWh more. That is frequently a 25 per cent (and more) increase in electrical energy needed.

If only half of vehicles in B.C. go electric, not even Site C would be enough to cover this demand. I understand that the average power produced will be more than 500 MW. We certainly will need it and we can easily sell extra, if any.

This power source is continual and reliable. Solar cells or expensive windmills are not. We would have to cover and destroy much of the land with windmills and solar cells to be anywhere near what Site C would produce. And our electrical energy cost could go up four times. Dams and water reservoirs are great recreational sites. The dams help to modify the irregular flows downstream.

Simply said, the B.C. government has some intelligent people, which is for me difficult to admit.
