Victoria has innovative leadership

-

Re: “Victoria needs fresh leadership,” letter, Jan. 4.

I am excited about the future of this city.

Over the past four years, I’ve seen a city council committed to learning from and adopting the best ideas and practices from some of the most innovative cities in the world. Innovation requires bold and courageous leadership that understands the challenges and resistance that can come with change.

This is why I will be supporting Victoria Mayor Lisa Helps in the upcoming municipal election. Helps isn’t afraid to buck the status quo to lead the kind of progressive initiatives that will allow this city to grow to its full potential.

Helps also understands the importance of economic development and supporting local businesses.

I was able to experience this support first hand on a recent trade mission with the city to China. In addition to setting up business meetings, travel logistics and translators for my company, Helps also took the time to personally attend an important business meeting of mine. Government support for private-sector companies and projects is critical in Chinese business culture, and having this type of support from our local government is critical for local companies, such as Limbic Media, moving into this major emerging market.

Let’s continue to vote for leaders like Helps who have the grit, determination and bold vision to transform Victoria from the good city we all know and love to the great city it can become.
