Learn how to trace your family history
You can find out more about your ancestors at Celebrating Families Across Generations, a familyhistory conference organized by the Family History Centre of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, on Friday and Saturday.
There will be five sessions at the conference, covering 34 topics.
The conference is open to anyone over 12.
Experts will show you how to get started in family history, regionspecific research, how to use family history software and databases, and the role and use of photos in family history.
The keynote speaker is Karen Inkster Vance, a teacher, writer and researcher who is researching her own family history.
Last year’s conference attracted about 400 people and a similar number are expected this year.
You are encouraged to register early as some of the classes are expected to fill up. Online registration ends Thursday.
The conference is free to attend. Doors open at 8 a.m. for late registrations, followed by opening remarks and general instructions at 8:30 a.m.
Classes will be held throughout the day, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The event takes place at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latterday Saints, 701 Mann Ave. (corner of Wilkinson Road). A lunch will be available for a nominal fee.
Tours of the Family History Centre will also be available.
