Payette to make first official visit to B.C. this week
Gov. Gen. Julie Payette will make her first official visit to British Columbia this week.
Lt.-Gov. Judith Guichon will welcome Payette to the province at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Government House. The public is invited to attend a ceremony outside the legislature beginning at 2 p.m.
Premier John Horgan will greet Payette on the east drive of the legislature in a ceremony that will start with a traditional First Nations welcome and include the Naden Band, a 100-member military guard of honour and a 21-gun salute, fired by the Fifth B.C. Field Regiment Royal Canadian Artillery. There also will be a flower presentation.
After the ceremony, Payette will meet with veterans in the Upper Rotunda and sign B.C.’s distinguished visitors book in the Lower Rotunda, before holding a private meeting with Horgan.
That evening, Horgan and Guichon will host a reception at Government House with key provincial leaders.
On Wednesday morning, Payette will meet with members of the Royal Canadian Navy aboard HMCS Regina and HMCS Chicoutimi.
On Wednesday afternoon, Payette will recognize excellence, courage and exceptional dedication to service by presenting honours to nearly 45 Canadians at Government House.
Payette will be in Vancouver on Thursday and Friday. While there, she will tour the campus of TRIUMF, Canada’s particle accelerator centre, and deliver an address at the Canadian Club of Vancouver.
