Island Good: Promoting locally produced food

-

Vancouver Island grocers unveiled the new “Island Good” logo on Wednesday at Portofino Bakery. The logo is designed to highlight food that has been produced on Vancouver Island and the goal is to boost sales of foods produced by local companies. The campaign runs from this month to mid-September in Country Grocer, Thrifty Foods, 49th Parallel, and Quality Foods stores on the Island. The pilot project is being introduced by the Vancouver Island Economic Alliance in a bid to strengthen the local food economy. On hand to celebrate the launch are, from left, Jordan Schley of Quality Foods, Travis Shaw of Thrifty Foods, Tammy Averill of Country Grocer, Ken Smith of 49th Parallel Grocery and George Hanson of the Vancouver Island Economic Alliance.
