Students show off their talent

More than 9,000 students of music, dance and dramatic arts will perform at the Greater Victoria Performing Arts Festival, Wednesday to May 12 at various venues.

During the festival, young stage performers — singers, dancers, musicians and dramatists — will receive adjudicati­ons from renowned experts.

You can watch some of the region’s best and brightest vie for top marks in adjudicate­d sessions and highlights concerts in brass, choral, studio (and school) dance, fiddle and ethnic dance, piano, speech and dramatic arts, junior piano, strings and voice.

Adjudicati­ons take place daily, with the first concert, the choral, taking place at 7 p.m. April 19 at the First Metropolit­an Church. Festival concerts include studio dance on May 4, junior piano and junior strings on April 29, and school dance on May 7.

Tickets and annual passes for all adjudicate­d sessions and concert tickets are available at the door.

The annual session pass costs $25 (does not include concerts). Single admission at all venues (except the University of Victoria’s Farquhar Auditorium) is $5 for adults and $3 for seniors, students and children. Sessions at the Farquhar are $7 for adults and $5 for seniors, students and children.

Concerts are $12 for adults and $8 for seniors, students and children. At the Farquhar, tickets are $15 for adults or $12 for seniors, students and children. Cash and cheques are accepted.
