Sedins will be hard to replace
Re: “Sedin to Sedin: Canucks win!” April 6. Henrik to Daniel for the OT winner! How many times have we heard that? Well, a lot, really.
Henrik Sedin is the team’s all-time leader in assists, and you guessed it, Daniel Sedin is the team’s all-time leader in goals.
Thursday night reminds one of that great Joni Mitchell line: “You don’t know what you got till it’s gone.”
The Sedins, when drafted, were early disappointments, over-rated, too slow, not enough “Canadian moxie.” Swedish twins? Really?
But they worked hard to improve themselves and their team. Art Ross, Hart, Ted Lindsay and Presidents trophies followed. One thousand-plus games; 1,000-plus points each, all with the same team.
They perfected puck possession in the offensive zone long before it became the trend it is now, some nights looking the like the Globetrotters vs. the Washington Generals.
And by all accounts, better guys off the ice than on: Behind-the-scenes community involvement in their adopted home; team guys supportive of everyone in the organization.
The Canucks will be hard-pressed to replace them, especially in the short term, so appreciate these last few games with future Hall of Famers. To paraphrase Dr. Seuss: “Don’t be sad for what is over, be happy for what you had.” Len Jansen Langford
